DAY 1
The Warringah Piranhas were represented on day 1 by swimmers in 36 individual swims in the heats session. 10 of those swimmers progressed through to the finals in the evening and the team came away with 3 Gold to Luke Higgs 16yrs 400m Free, Gemma Sellick 14-15yrs 200 IM MC and making her Snr State debut, Hana Horii 12yrs 100 Breast who qualified and won her first ever NSW Senior State final.
Lachlan Davies achieved a silver medal in the 16yrs 50m Free.
The Pink caps were in full swing when it came to the relays on night 1 with teams in the girls and boys 15-17yrs 4 x 50 IM relay. Finishing in 14th and 4th place respectively.
DAY 2
Following on from an outstanding day 1, day 2 proved to be just as special. We had 28 individual swims in the heats session with 7 swimmers progressing through to the finals. Addison McCullough, Hannah Huisman, Natasha Boss, Racquel Wu, Charlie Cook, Caitlin Potter, Luke Higgs.
Our athletes won 2 Gold medals. Hanna Huisman 14yrs 50m Freestyle and Luke Higgs 16yrs 200m Freestyle.
Our young relay ladies, Mia Reynolds, Emily Ruff, Caitlin Potter & Hannah Huisman, produced some outstanding performances to claim the Bronze in the 12-14yrs 4 x 50m Freestyle relay.
Special mention to Addison McCullough (making her Snr State debut), Charlie Cook and Natasha Boss who all competed in their first individual NSW Senior State Finals.
DAY 3
Day 3 proved to be our best day to date with 21 individual swims and 12 personal best times swum in the heat session. We had 9 swimmers progress to the finals which saw the mighty Pink caps take out 4 Gold to Hana Horii 12yrs 200m Breaststroke, Hannah Huisman 14yrs 100m Butterfly, Lach Davies 16yrs 100m Backstroke and Luke Higgs 16yrs 200m IM.
Gemma Sellick swam yet another personal best to take the silver 14-15yrs MC 50m Butterfly and Pippa McCullough improved on her personal best to finish with the Bronze 15yrs 100m Backstroke.
Not to be outdone were our boys in the 15-17yrs 4 x 50m Free Relay who swam magnificently to finish with the Bronze medal. The team consisted of Xander Halfen, Oscar Bourke, Cooper Screen and Lach Davies.
Special mention to Pippa McCullough winning her first NSW Senior State medal and Makayla Pedersen who competed in her first NSW Senior State final finishing in 7th place.
DAY 4
Day 4 started with 22 individual swims for the Pink caps and finished with 14 PBs, 1 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze medal.
Our Gold came by the way of Gemma Sellick’s incredible swim in the 12-14yrs MC 50BK. The Silver medal came from Caitlin Potter who swam an amazing race in the 14yrs 100BK.
The bronze medal was by way of an extremely exciting race in the 12-14yrs 4x50m Medley Relay consisting of Caitlin , Hana , Emily & Hannah.
Special mentions for day 4 go to Gemma Sellick who, in winning her 2nd Gold medal for the meet, narrowly missed one of Australia’s most decorated Paralympian’s record by a mere 0.23. The record is currently held by none other than Ellie Cole. Gemma will be on the hunt for this record over the next 5 months. Let’s go Gemma.
Special mention also to Caitlin Potter who won her first Senior State medal when she claimed the silver in the girls 100BK in a new PB.
DAY 5
Warringah swimmers were once again showing their worth on day 5 of the NSW Snr State Champs with swimmers competing in 33 individual races in the heats and 11 of our finest swimmers progressing through to the Finals. The PINK cap proved a force to be reckoned with as Warringah finished the day with 13 PBs, 3 Gold, 2 Silver & 2 Bronze medals.
Gold went to Lachlan Davies in the 16yrs 200 Back, Hannah Huisman in the 14yrs 50 Fly & Luke Higgs in the 16yrs 800 Free.
Silver medallists were Hannah Huisman 14yrs 200 Free & Lach Davies 16yrs 50 Fly.
Claiming Bronze medals were, Tilly Young 14yrs 200 Free & Gemma Sellick, 12-14yrs MC 50 Free.
Day 5 standout performances go to Pippa McCullough & Makayla Pedersen in the girls 15yrs 200BK finishing in 5th and 6th place respectively and in doing so shaving 3 and 4 seconds off their PBs.
The girls 14yrs 200m Freestyle was another highlight of the night with both Hannah Huisman & Tilly Young showing their strength and grace to fight it out in one of the closest finishes of the night to claim the silver and bronze respectively.
CONGRATULATIONS to Luke Higgs who did his club proud once again winning his 4th Gold medal so far, in the 16yrs 800 Free and in doing so, claiming the NSW Swimmer of the night award.
Day 6
Day 6 continued to produce amazing results for Warringah. The heats session saw the pink caps dive into the water 28 times in individual swims & finished the heats session with swimmers progressing to the finals in 14 swims.
The finals session was once again a thrilling night finishing off with 18 PBs, 4 Gold, 2 Bronze & an AUSTRALIAN RECORD!
Gold medals to Luke Higgs 16yrs 400IM, Hana Horii 12yrs 50BR, giving Hana the clean sweep for the meet. The other 2 Golds were won by Gemma Sellick in the 12-14yrs MC 100BK & 100BR in which she also claimed the SB8 Australian Record by over a second.
Bronze medallists were Lach Davies 16yrs 100FR & Racquel Wu, 16yrs 50BR making it Racquel’s first state medal.
The evening finished with Warringah represented in the 18/U 4 x 100m relays where the boys finished in 18th & the girls in 10th place.
Highlights of the day were:
- Hana Horii clean sweeping the 50, 100 & 200 12yrs breaststroke events.
- Natasha Boss qualifying for her first Nationals from her wonderful swim in the 16yrs 50BR.
- Charlotte Harkin breaking the magic 60s barrier for the first time in the girls 16yrs 100FR
- Luke Higgs being presented with the NSW Snr State Swim for night 5
- Gemma Sellick smashing the Australian Record SB8 Girls 100BR
Day 7
Final day of competition finished with a bang as the day began with 23 individual swims. From these swims we had 13 PBs and 13 swims in the finals. The finals session was packed with excitement with 3 Gold to Chloe Ng in the 16yrs 800FR, Hannah Huisman in the 14yrs 100FR & Luke Higgs 16yrs 1500FR in an epic finish.
The Warringah Team also took home 2 Silver with Caitlin Potter in the 14yrs 50BK & Lach Davies 16yrs 50BK.
The night finished with the thrilling 10 x 50 Free Relays with Warringah being well represented in both the girls and boys finishing in 7th and 5th place respectively.
Highlights of day 7 were Chloe Ng winning Gold in her 800FR from the heats swim, & Luke Higgs’ 1500FR sprint finish on the last lap which had the crowd going crazy.
Well done to all swimmers on an amazing 7 days & nights, you should be so proud of yourselves, we certainly are! Huge thanks to our coaches for all your hard work in the lead up to and during the busy week of Senior State Age!
